Further informationson the exhibit "Möbius strip"
The wondrous loop called Möbius strip was discovered as early as 1858 by two German mathematicians (Möbius and Listing) - independently of each other. It is a geometric object with only one edge and one surface. In the language of mathematics, this means that the Möbius strip is not orientable and you cannot distinguish between inside and outside.
The amazing characteristics have not only inspired artists, but are also used practically: Engineers, for example, construct conveyor belts as Möbius belts so that the belt wears evenly.
