The bridge construction shown here is based on the work of the artist Leonardo da Vinci. His goal was to build a bridge that was easy to build and quick to use. He took advantage of the friction between the woods. The individual woods are canted by the strong friction and keep the bridge together in this way. However, this construction also has a disadvantage: The bridge is already exposed to a high force due to the friction alone; therefore it cannot be used to cover large distances.
